"To learn a language is to learn a culture. I would be happy if you could deepen your understanding of Japan through Japanese."

Q: How are your lessons?

I want you to speak up, even if you make mistakes. I will correct your mistakes in class, but outside of class, I want you to be able to speak without worrying about making mistakes.

Q: Why did you become a teacher?

When I lived in the U.S. for five years for my husband's work, I went to ESL language schools and community college to study English. I also had a volunteer teacher who taught me English. Studying English enriched my life in the US very much. When I returned to Japan, I decided that this time I wanted to help others who wanted to learn Japanese by becoming a Japanese teacher.

Q: What do you like about teaching?

In my lessons, I want to be a conversation partner for my students, and not simply a teacher. To learn a language is to learn a culture, so I would be happy if you could deepen your understanding of Japan through learning and speaking Japanese.

Q: What are your hobbies?

I am learning about Japanese tea ceremonies and yoga. The tea ceremony is very helpful in understanding Japanese culture and I learn yoga to relax. On my days off, I enjoy going to museums to see and appreciate tea utensils and Japanese art.
