Why do you want to learn Japanese?
I have been living in Saitama and Tokyo for several years now and although I can handle daily conversations, I wanted to take my Japanese up to the next level. I would like to speak more natural Japanese and also increase my vocabulary so I can express myself better.
I also got promoted at my job to manager of a large team and the new position requires more Japanese and so I am definitely here to learn.
Why did you choose Japan Switch?
I chose Japan switch because I was looking for cheap Japanese lessons and wanted a school that does not have an expensive enrollment fee. I am quite busy with work and my initial plan is to study Japanese for several months. I like how they have a monthly enrollment system, so if I get super busy, I can cancel lessons for one month and come back without having to pay an enrollment fee again and again.
How are your lessons?
My teacher Goyou is very passionate about teaching Japanese and I think we have a good connection. I like how he is patient and gives me time to think because it sometimes takes a couple minutes to make the switch to Japanese from English in my mind. I also like that he can give explanations in English, but tries to avoid using English unless I really need it.
I have had lessons at several community centers in Tokyo where the volunteer teachers seemed to use English more to practice it for themselves as opposed to my benefit, but the teachers at Japan Switch are different. I also find that paying for lessons as opposed to taking free community center Japanese lessons pushes me to study because I want to make the best use of my money.
Japan Switch also makes some amazing guides on how to learn Japanese.
How did Japan Switch surprise you?
I was surprised that there were no additional costs. I really only had to pay for lessons and the textbook. I was a bit worried about having to pay for the first two months in advance, but the total was only about 25,000 for the first two months and the textbook. I also expected a strong sales pitch, but the staff were very relaxed.
