What is Japan Switch?
Japan Switch was created through a collaboration between Coto Language Academy and One Coin English with the goal of providing a low cost option of Japanese lessons for foreigners in Tokyo who are unable to commit to an intensive program and do not need the focused effort and constant support an intensive programs provide. Our Japanese lessons are 3630 yen for a 100 minute group lesson and 3630 yen for a 50 minute private lesson and we provide lessons and instruction for beginner to low intermediate level Japanese learners.
In addition to providing lessons, we also provide self-study tips and manuals for our students to help them not only improve their Japanese, but on how to make Japanese friends and understand Japanese customs, and Japanese culture. Our second goal is to help you make the switch from the foreign bubble to gradually using more Japanese in their daily life and making more Japanese friends.
We are the best language school alternative in Tokyo for someone who wants to take one to five lessons a week and who want to combine a mixture of self-study and lessons in person with a native Japanese language teacher. We are also a great choice for people who are doing freelancer work or for homemakers who would like support in improving their language skills while saving money at the same time. Our Japanese language school in Tokyo is conveniently located in Shinjuku and we are located only 5 minutes from JR Shinjuku station on foot.
For those looking for an intensive program or intermediate level and above lessons, please check out our sister school Coto Language Academy. They are also a good choice for students who want a comprehensive learning course with homework, study apps, and veteran teachers.
Update 2020 : We are now offering both group and private online Japanese lessons in addition to our popular offline Japanese lessons in Shinjuku.
We have partnered to provide a lower cost version of their premium Japanese lessons and to help them in their vision and goals of increasing the amount of Japanese speaking foreigners in Japan.
We provide teacher training and a small portion of our course materials. All teachers at Japan Switch have completed the first level of Japanese Conversation Instructor Training for teaching beginner level students.
For students looking for an intensive program or would like more support and comprehensive language learning program, please consider lessons with us.
Welcome
Japan is an amazing place. Transportation and business is so efficient, the food is delicious and gorgeous, and the people are so polite and friendly. On the other hand, living in Japan can be a challenge. Learning Japanese on your own can be tough. Finding an apartment and getting settled in Japan is stressful and complicated. Making Japanese friends takes time.
I remember when I first came to Japan 14 years ago from the United States. I did not know how to study Japanese, my company did not introduce me or help me make Japanese friends, and lessons at formal schools required me to spend a lot of money that I did not have upfront and make a long-term commitment.
Based on these previous experiences, our team and myself at Japan Switch wanted to create a company that helps foreigners overcome the language barrier by providing affordable lessons, but more importantly to provide a way of starting to learn Japanese without having to invest a lot of money from the start.
Sincerely, Tyson Batino
Big 3 Missions
Affordable Japanese Lessons
We want to increase the amount of foreigners who can speak Japanese and the best way to do it is to have a school with affordable lessons. However, just having a good price is not enough. We also aim to provide good Japanese lessons and textbooks at a reasonably cheap price, using quality Japanese lesson materials that have been developed in house based on many years of experience, and a group of passionate and caring native Japanese teachers.
No Barriers to Start Learning
We are reducing the barriers to entering a school with one month contracts, so you can leave after one month if your situation changes and do not need to be worried about making a long-term commitment you cannot turn your back onto. The one month contract also provides pressure on us to provide a good service.
Community and Japanese Study Support
Coming to Tokyo on your own or even with family can be tough experience if you do not have a community to support you. In collaboration with our sister English school which has over 4000 students, we hold monthly events where you can make new Japanese friends in a comfortable and friendly environment. We also provide Japanese language study support for our students to help you develop good habits and tips on how to self-study on your own and combine it with your Japanese lessons with us.
