"I really like seeing my students develop and grow and challenge themselves."

Why did you become a Japanese teacher?

I had a wonderful experience of being an English language student in Tokyo that made me start thinking about becoming a Japanese language teacher.

I studied at a big school with more than 20 teachers and took private English lessons with teachers from more than 15 different countries. Through this experience, I had multiple teachers who really had a major impact on me and are part of the reasons why I am a Japanese teacher today.

My lessons with these teachers were amazing. They really understood me not only as a student but as a person and it was like telepathy where I did not even need to mention anything but the teacher knew how I was feeling or what areas I needed help on and when I needed encouragement. Our lessons went smoothly and it was a special experience to develop such a close relationship with several of my teachers.

It was through these moments where I really felt the power that a teacher has on their students. My teachers had helped me learn not only English, but a lot about myself and Japanese culture and it made me want to share this powerful experience with foreigners in Japan as well. I hope to help you not only with your Japanese lessons but also with your life and time in Tokyo.

What do you like about teaching Japanese?

I am really blessed and lucky that I can meet people from so many different countries. There are not many other jobs where you would have the opportunity to meet people from all over the world and really connect with them.

Teaching is also a profession where you can have a big impact on people. I really like seeing my students develop and grow and challenge themselves. Seeing my students accomplish something they were unable to do before brings me so much joy and seeing that transformation is a magical experience. Another moment that motivates me is when both myself and my student really understand one another and I know exactly how to best help them.

How are your lessons?

I really look forward to teaching you at Japan Switch and am excited to hear about what you are doing in Tokyo.

My first goal as a teacher is to create an environment where you feel relaxed and are enjoying the lessons. My second goal is to use the structure of the textbook to give you a nice foundation for learning Japanese and expanding on the contents inside to match your learning needs and your needs for living in Tokyo.

I also like to talk to my students about a wide range of topics and would like you to speak as much as possible during the lessons.

What are your hobbies?

I really like to travel and experience new cultures. I have been to many countries in Europe, Asia, and North America. I have not been to Eastern Europe yet, but I look forward to exploring more in the coming years.

Outside of traveling, I like to knit and have made things like a cap, scarf, and other nice things. I also like to cook and experiment with making foods from all over the world and using a variety of spices and ingredients.

Thank you for checking out my profile and I look forward to seeing you at Japan Switch Tokyo!
