"I wanted to contribute to society by helping foreign people and students wh oare not used to Japan or who are struggling with Japanese, the same way that I have been helped."
About me!
I am Naomi, and I live in Nerima-ku in Tokyo. I was born in Tokyo and raised in Saitama prefecture.
During university, I stayed in France as an exchange student for a year. I used to work in a French wine & spirits company as an assistant of Marketing and PR and worked in a specialized trading company of European lace as a salesperson.
I just recently moved back to Japan in March after living in Singapore for almost ten years.
What would you like people to know about Japan?
Walking from Omotesando to “Nezu museum" is one of my favorite things to do in Tokyo. This museum itself is not big but has a beautiful garden with teahouses that is perfect for being relaxed. Though Tokyo has many famous places, I also recommend going to the countryside parts of Japan. It’s very peaceful and you may find unexpectedly interesting places.
What do you like about Japan Switch?
My co-workers here at Japan Switch are very friendly and welcoming, and I feel comfortable working here as a receptionist and a consultant. When students who have had difficulty learning Japanese in the past take our consultation and decide to take a step towards mastering Japanese, I feel fortunate that I was able to help their learning journey.
Do you have any useful tips for learning Japanese?
I hope that learning Japanese makes peoples’ lives in Japan enriched and easier. I learnt English at several Language Schools before but I have experienced giving up learning due to their complicated system, long-term contract, and unclear admission fees. I think a simple system such as Japan Switch’ is really good and that you can make progress with us.
What do you do for fun?
Right now, I enjoy farming with my family on the weekends. The district that I live in, Nerima, is actually the district with the most agriculture in Tokyo. We grow vegetables such as daikon, corn, and cucumbers, and I enjoy experiencing a partially self-sufficient life. It’s very tiring and difficult, but the feeling of eating the most delicious vegetables I’ve ever had is like no other.
